UX: understanding the whole journey

Reduce uncertainty without removing meaningful challenge.

First session

Teach the smallest useful action in context. Let a player understand the objective, act and see the result before introducing optional systems. Evaluate time to first meaningful action and where players hesitate; no current numerical baseline is claimed.

Feedback and recovery

Explain invalid moves in a calm, actionable way. Preserve progress where promised and make destructive resets deliberate. After a loss, show a clear outcome and a direct retry path; avoid turning recovery into a chain of advertisements or consent prompts.

Observe, do not assume

Use task-based sessions and record what happened before interpreting why. Separate a usability failure from a deliberate strategic challenge. Collect only necessary research data with appropriate consent and retention limits.

Iteration owner

Ethan sets the experience goal, Liam schedules changes and the relevant specialist reviews the candidate. A useful UX report links an observed issue to a proposed change, a retest and the remaining uncertainty rather than presenting opinions as player evidence.
